Spring HVAC Maintenance Checklist

Spring HVAC Maintenance Checklist

Now that warmer weather is here in Riverside, CA it’s time to start thinking about preparing your home for the summer. Once it’s hotter outside, the last thing you want to happen is for your HVAC to start having issues. An air conditioner that operates properly is essential to keeping cool! That’s why we created this simple Spring HVAC Maintenance checklist so that you can put your mind at ease.

1. Replace your air filter

This may seem like the most obvious piece of advice, but it’s the most important! In the Spring while allergens are abundant, it’s extra important to make sure you have a clean filter running in your air handler or furnace. Plus, a clean filter will ensure your system runs efficiently.

2. Remove debris

Turn your thermostat to the off position and head outside to pay your air conditioner a visit. Remove any debris you find on or around the air conditioner. After that, check the space around the unit. There should be 2-3 feet of clearance around your unit for best performance. If there are any shrubs or bushes, trim them back to make sure your AC gets proper airflow.

3. Clean your air vents

Another important maintenance tip for your HVAC this Spring is to clean your air vents. Dust can build up on air vents over time which gives it a dirty look. But more importantly, that dust becomes a part of the air you breath. A vacuum cleaner with an extender rod can be used to clean off an air vent. As another option, you can use an old rag dampened with warm water to wipe away any dust.

4. Schedule a seasonal tune-up

People often skip this important step. A seasonal tune-up is critical to the long-term health of your air conditioning system. Given the expense of a new HVAC system, it’s important to make sure your unit stays operational as long as possible. Plus: residents of Riverside and surrounding areas can get a rebate from our local utility – making your tune-up even more affordable and worthwhile.
