Sheldon’s Guide to Places to See in Riverside, CA

Whether you are new to the area or you’ve lived here for years, it is hard to deny that Riverside is a great place to live and work. When it comes to fun activities, there is plenty to do and see in the area. We love living here, and that’s why we have put together a list of our favorite things to do and places to see in Riverside, CA.

Riverside CA: Places to See

Need something to do this weekend? Looking for fun upcoming events? Here is a list of our favorite places to see and things to do in Riverside, CA:

The Parent Washington Navel Tree

The Washington Navel Orange Tree has brought us the delicious seedless oranges that we know and love today. The first pair of these trees was planted in Riverside in the 1870s. While one of the original trees died in 1921, the other parent tree that is the single source of the state’s orange industry is still right here in Riverside. The tree resides on a patch of land in a Riverside intersection with a plaque to highlight its importance. This is an interesting piece of Riverside history that you won’t want to miss.

Southern California Medical Museum

The Southern California Medical Museum is another interesting place that you can visit in Riverside. The small medical museum includes a recreated doctor’s office and features a collection of medical artifacts, photography, and a library that dates back to 1843. This is certainly a must-see for anyone who enjoys museums or learning more about interesting pieces of history.

Graffiti Waterfall

The graffiti waterfall is a semi-secret natural feature that many locals love to experience. The waterfall is nestled behind a Riverside colony and is adorned with years of interesting street art. This is certainly a unique feature that you will not see anywhere else. The waterfall mixes urban art with natural beauty in a way that you rarely see in other locations.

Tio’s Tacos

Another interesting place that you will only see in Riverside is Tio’s Tacos, a taqueria in the heart of historic Downtown Riverside that features some of the best Mexican food and folk art in the area. Though the food is your usual Southern California fast-casual Mexican dining, the unique and interesting collection of folk art allows you to experience a little piece of art history as you enjoy some delicious Mexican food.

A Guide to Riverside: Top 10 Things New Homeowners Should Know

Known as the city of arts and innovation, Riverside, CA is a vibrant city that offers a lot of different things to see and do. Riverside homeowners enjoy a beautiful climate year-round, which is probably why Riverside is the 12th most populous city in California. Whether you are planning on moving to Riverside or you’ve only lived here for a short period of time, you can use the guide below to better get to know the city and what it has to offer.

Riverside, CA: 10 Things You Need to Know

At Sheldon’s Heating & Air Conditioning, we love working with residents in the Riverside, CA community. That’s why we’ve put together a list of the top 10 things that we think all Riverside residents should know:

  1. Riverside has a semi-arid Mediterranean climate. This means that summers are dry and hot, and winters tend to be relatively wet and mild. The average summer temperature is about 90 degrees Fahrenheit, and average winter temperatures fall between 50 and 60 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Though Riverside once had issues with air pollution, residents can now breathe easy! Local government alongside the South Coast Air Quality Management District worked to take measures that significantly decreased the amount of pollution in the air.
  3. Riverside is a great city for those who like to have fun. The area boasts a long list of festivals and events, including the Legends of Riverside Film Festival, the Riverside Festival of Lights, and the Riverside Airshow.
  4. The city of Riverside has a great job market with some of the largest employers in the public education system along with many job opportunities in other industries as well. This makes it a great location for those who may be on the hunt for a new job.
  5. The city is also home to many interesting historical landmarks. Among them is the Riverside Fox Theater, which is where the very first showing of Gone with the Wind took place. Other historic spots include the Mission Inn and the Riverside County Historic Courthouse, which was based on the Petit Palais in Paris, France.
  6. There are 28 neighborhoods to choose from in Riverside, including Arlington, Canyon Crest, Casa Blanca, Victoria, Downtown, Hawarden Hills, Orange Crest, Presidential Park, Mission Grove, and Sycamore Canyon Park.
  7. The city of Riverside is proud of its historic connection to the navel orange. In fact, Riverside is home to one of the only surviving Parent Navel Orange Trees from which all of the navel orange trees on the west coast are descended!
  8. Riverside is often used as a filming location for television and movies. This is in part due to its close proximity to Hollywood as well as its interesting and unique architecture.
  9. If you’re a history buff, you may want to check out some of the interesting museums in the city of Riverside. Some of these museums include the California Citrus State Historic Park Museum, March Field Air Museum, Riverside Art Museum, Sherman Indian Museum, and the Southern California Medical Museum.
